I’m not happy with my website, it’s not to the standard I want it to be so I’ve decided to make some changes. While I want to change the overall theme of the site I dramatically want to improve the photographs of the wedding invitations and other stationery. So I’ve been scouting around useful tips on photographing wedding invitations and other stationery products.

I stumbled across a craft forum a few days ago and I intend on hanging out in there for a while as they’ve got so many tips to share. It reminded me of the usefulness of forums they’re great places to spend some time and gain great knowledge, learn from others and give your opinion. So if you’ve not visited a wedding forum before while you’re in the middle of your wedding planning you really should. And while you’re busy meeting other brides to be I’ll be experimenting with my wedding invitation photos. Hopefully when you return I will have made some progress and if you’re a budding photographer with any tips to share feel free to leave them below.

Cheers

There could be a number of reasons why you’re considering choosing black invitations for your wedding. It may be something as simple as your wedding colours are black and an additional colour. Or maybe you haven’t decided on your wedding colours yet but really like the effect of black invitations. A popular reason for choosing black invitations is that you’ve chosen to have you wedding in historic or formal settings such as a castle, old church or stately home. Maybe you’ve heard that your invitation sets the tone of your wedding and you know that you want something simple yet striking that will tell your guests they’re in for a seriously classy wedding!

Whatever your reason, let’s look at what assumptions you make about the colour black. For example, if you were given a black jewellery box and a white jewellery box which would you open first? Probably the black box? I know I would because I automatically assume whatever’s in the black box is more expensive and better quality.

Stop for a minute and think about the other attributes you’d give to the colour black or any black objects. If you have a pen and paper handy, write them down. Does your list look similar to mine? Formal, elegant, timeless, sophisticated, striking. What about these: power, sexuality, wealth, mystery?

Since you’ve just given the colour black those attribute you can be sure that your guests will unconsciously give the same attributes to black wedding invitations. And as if by magic you’ve just set the tone for your wedding without even having to try. Your guests will assume you wedding will be elegant, sophisticated, memorable and definitely worth attending.

You may think that black invitations for your wedding are a little to dark, so if you’re looking for a good balance team it with white. These invitations can’t help but look timeless and elegant. Plus your wedding guests will be proud to display it in their home as they will easily coordinate with their own home decorations and look great on top of the fire or on a shelf.

Black can also be teamed with other strong colours. Invitations with black and another colour such as a bright red, racing car green or hot pink are eye-catching interesting. Currently black and pink wedding invitations are very popular this year. If you don’t want such a rich coloured wedding invitation black can also be teamed with lighter colour for a more subtle effect.

At Wedding And Gems Invites you could even have your black wedding invitations personalised with the wedding couple’s names creating the focal point of the invite such as the Baroque Black Wedding Invitations.

So many people don’t order enough invitations for their wedding, so how can you ensure you’re not one of these people?

Before you order the invitations for your wedding you’re going to need to decide on the guest list. Since it’s not as simple as ordering the same number of invitations as there are for the people on your guest list you could end up being short on your wedding invitations in you’re not careful. So you’ll either not have enough to send out or you wouldn’t be able to keep the spares as a keepsake.

Step 1 – Deciding on your primary and back up list of wedding guests

While you were creating your guest list you probably had a list of people who you’d love to attend, they’re your most nearest and dearest, this is your primary guest list. You may also have a back up list, those you’d like to come but their isn’t enough room to invite them or your budget just can’t stretch that far. These guests on the back up list could come if some of the primary list couldn’t attend.

Your first step is to count up all the invitations you’ll need for your primary list, couples living together and young families will only need 1 invitation but if the children are adults but still living at home it might be a nice touch to invite them separately. So if you choose to invite a couple who’s child is 9, they will only need one invitation for your wedding, but if the child was 19 you should send them an invitation separately.

Step 2 – Adding in a congincy for you back up guests

You should then add another 20% on to the number of invitations you need for your primary guest list to send to those on your back up list once you have received RVSP from those who can’t attend. This should be enough to also leave you with a keepsake.

So if you needed a 100 invitations for your wedding to cover the primary guest list, you should order 120 to be on the safe side.

Step 3 – Add a few extra for when you make mistakes writing the wedding invitations

If you are handwriting the guests names you may want to order a few more in case you make spelling mistakes. I always the find the more important it is for my writing to be perfect, the more prone I am to making mistakes.

I have a thing for butterflies, maybe because as I child I got close enough to stroke on while it was fluttering about in my parents back garden, I remember feeling surprise at the furriness of the butterflies body and honored that I’d got close enough to experience it. Butterflies are one of naturals beauties, they always remind me of warm summer days and make perfect decoration for wedding invitations so I’ve been busy creating the newest butterfly wedding invitations in purple and matching wedding stationery.

I was inspired by a stamp that I’d managed to pick up in my local shop while shopping for beads for my bridal accessories. It was so romantic with soft floral swirls and large butterflies. I’ve used this stamp and pale pink ink to create the background for the Purple Garden Wedding Invites. It’s been embellished with a metallic purple tag with a die cut butterfly which has been stamped in the same pale pink ink, fastened with sheer black ribbon for added texture. This is then mounted on matt purple paper which in attached to linen textured card base.

I’ve made this range of butterfly wedding invitations smaller than other invitations in my collection simply be enable those of a stricter budget to still have the luxury of handmade wedding invitations. These purple butterfly wedding invitations measure 114mm by 95mm and are side folded. As with all my invites printing the guests names come as standard but if you’re looking to save even more money you can opt to not have your guests names pre-printed.

The purple butterfly wedding invitation is not the only butterfly inspired product in the purple garden range, name cards, menus, order of service books as well as much more are also available.

You can view the Purple Garden wedding stationery range here:
